Welcome to Algebra 1!!
Algebra 1 introduces you to variables, algebraic expressions, equations, functions, inequalities, and their multiple representations. You will develop the ability to explore and solve real-world application problems, demonstrate the appropriate use of graphing calculators, and communicate mathematical ideas clearly. This course lays the foundation for every subsequent course in mathematics. The topics learned in Algebra 1 comprise a large part of the SAT objectives. It’s a big deal !I look forward to a great year. Please contact me any time with questions, comments, or concerns. My goal is for each of you to feel successful and enjoy learning. I know together we can make this happen!
Classroom Suppliesat least two sharpened pencils with erasers
textbook spiral notebook (for notes) folder or 3 ring binder (for handouts and homework) We will be using the TI-Nspire calculators and desmos in class. These graphing calculators are powerful learning tools to explore data represented with a table, a graph, or with an equation. There are also many free graphing calculators that can be downloaded from the internet. Link to Join Remindhttps://www.remind.com/join/g4h62

GradesGrades will be based on the following:
20% In Class Work (Notebook checks, group activities, exit slips, etc) 20% Homework 60% Quizzes, Test, Projects (Retakes are available on tests.) I encourage you to use Powerschools to check your progress. It’s a great resource to make sure you are on track. Rules to Live By |
HomeworkYou will be assigned homework almost every night. The homework is designed to give you a chance to practice concepts developed in class. Do not panic if you cannot do every problem. Write down the questions you have about the problem if you get stuck. That way I know you have tried the problem and you will remember the questions to ask in class. All homework assignments must be completed in order to retake any tests.
Homework will be assigned using the Big Ideas on-line assignment tool. You will need to complete the on-line portion and show all work on paper. Both will be checked by me. Please make arrangements with me if you do not have access to the internet at home to complete assignments. Your homework grade will consist of work ethic points awarded for having tried all the problems assigned by the time it is due. Then after you have had a chance to ask questions and make corrections, you will take a Homework Check (once or twice a week) where you answer several problems similar to your homework. You will be able to use your homework on these quizzes. These will be collected and graded. Assignment Link |
